The title of this article is ironic, considering just a few days back, I created a post on Instagram saying, “You Are Enough. Period.”
My perspective shift does not make the belief, ” I Am Enough,” false or wrong, because affirming “I am Enough” is actually the stepping stone to the awareness, “I am not enough and never will be.” It is like first practicing containment or being within a boundary to finally learn you are uncontainable.
Sounds confusing? Let me explain.
The very thought “I Am Not Enough” is natural. It’s your true nature. Leave it be!
Your thinking it’s not natural is what’s unnatural. It stems from the fact that we have been conditioned to see “not enough” from a perspective of “lack in ourselves,” keeping us trapped in the concept of lack.
For that matter, anything that we see and experience in the external world is not enough. There is always something more and new we need.
That does not apply to everyone, though. The contented few who know themselves won’t need to read this post anyway.
For the rest, who battle “not enough,” you won’t find ‘being enough’ on the outside. You’ve probably already looked for solutions enough in the external world, changed your image/self-concept/beliefs enough, bought material things enough to accessorize yourself and ‘feel enough’, played enough roles (professional and personal) to feel good, and successful enough…
Or, you may also feel you haven’t done something to feel enough, or you haven’t ‘become someone enough’ to be enough, and therefore you are still trapped in ‘not enough.’
And trapped, you’ll remain till you choose to rise above that perspective.
How to rise? Well, simply go within. If you do not find what you’re looking for in a particular location, what do you do? Change the location of your search. Since the external world does not have and cannot offer what you seek, i.e., ‘enoughness’ or more perhaps, change your location. Go within. See it from a different perspective, from a different vantage point.
This blog post itself is a different vantage point.
Once you go within, simply observe the thought, “I am not enough.” If a feeling comes up, observe that as well, and acknowledge it, do not identify or flow with it. Then gently ask yourself the question, “Who is the one saying and feeling I am not enough?”
The one trying to identify itself with the feeling of “I am not enough” through the eyes of lack is the ego-self. Are you the ego? If you suddenly lose everything the ego identifies with, the home, job, relationships, etc., would you cease to exist?
No.
Then why does the feeling/thought “I am not enough” make you feel you lack something?
And why does incorporating the belief “I am enough,” make you feel like you can gain something and be enough or more?
Nothing can be added to or subtracted from you.
Read that sentence again.
Why is it so? Because you are the complete circle. You are whole.
You are choosing to line up with the ego to see yourself through the limited peephole view the ego is offering. In doing so, you only see a minuscule portion of the whole.
Seeing the Truth in Parts
There is a story of three blind men touching an elephant and trying to describe it. One man touched the belly and said, “The elephant is like a drum.” The other touched the leg and said, “No, the elephant is like a pillar.” Another man touched and ear and said, “No, the elephant is like a fan.”
Finally, the last blind man touched the trunk of the elephant and said, “You’re all wrong, the elephant is like a rope!”
That’s what is happening here. Seeing or feeling a part of the whole picture and trying to fit in the ‘truth’ of who you ‘think you should be,’ into it to become ‘enough.’
The next time the thought, “I am not enough,” comes up, observe it. Don’t flow with it.
If you flow with it by identifying with the body, you’ll feel “I am definitely not enough.” Too many limitations appear, especially these types: Too fat, too thin, not successful enough, not loved enough, etc.
Instead, still yourself, go within, rise above the games and the peephole perception of the ego.
Question yourself, ‘The “I” in I am not enough, who is that?’ Who is that “I”? And Who Truly Am I?
Doing this will enable you to transcend all the physical limitations and merge your sight with that of the Higher Being within you, allowing you to have a 360-degree view.
‘Not Enough’ Through Ego Vs Higher Self’s Perception
When you experience the view, the ‘bigger picture,’ through the eyes of the Higher Self, you will realize that the feeling “I am Not Enough” is natural. Here’s why.
You are too vast to be contained in the body! Too vast to be coloured by any life experiences!
In this limited human body, due to the conditioning of the shadow world, you feel you’re not enough because you’re less. It’s the game your ego-self wants you to play. It is not you.
Through the viewpoint of the Higher Self, when you see the whole picture, it’s still the same – You are not enough, because where do you start? Where do you end?
There is a vastness beyond the farthest reaches of the mind. That vastness is my home; that vastness is myself. And that vastness is also love.
Shri Nisargadatta Maharaj
There is no start and end. There is no birth and death. You are indeed not enough and never will be because no sight can measure you! Vastness Is You!
I see Thee without beginning, middle, or end, infinite in power…..this space between heaven and earth and all the quarters are filled with Thee alone. –
Arjuna in Bhagavad Gita.
the Bhagavad Gita
I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.
The Bible
The Purusha (Universal Being) is indeed All this (Creation) in essence; That which existed in the Past, and that which will exist in the Future,” – Purusha Suktam (ancient Sanskrit text)
Purusha Suktam (Ancient Sanskrit Text)
“You are the All-Outward— there is none that encompasses You, and You are the All-Inward—there is none that is more penetrating than You.”
the Quran
Your true essence is everywhere and everything. The human birth, for that matter, any physical birth, is for experiencing separation through various physical bodies, to know, understand, and above all, love yourself through myriad forms and hues….
I separated Myself from Myself so that I could love Myself.
Sathya Sai Baba
Being ‘enough’ is measurable. It is satiety…Can you ever be satiated with Love and say “Enough No More?” Or do you want it to keep overflowing?
So, anytime you feel you’re not enough, it’s not because you are less, but because you are not allowing yourself to overflow! You’re not letting the true you be unleashed.
Stop trying to see where you end or where you begin…or whether you are enough or ‘more’ than enough. You are the immeasurable force! You cannot be limited, contained, or stopped.
Do not try to impose limitations of ‘enoughness’ on yourself. Overflowing is your nature.
Stop believing In God. Start believing As God.
Neville Goddard
The next time you’re hit by the feeling/thought “ I’m not enough,” say to yourself, “I am not enough because I am limitless, immeasurable, priceless!”
You can never be enough. It’s your nature.
You are Love and You are the overflow of Love.

April 12, 2023 at 5:00 amI’m impressed, I have to admit. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s both equally educative and engaging, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head. The issue is something too few folks are speaking intelligently about. Now I’m very happy I stumbled across this during my search for something relating to this.
